How to get to the Warsaw city centre from the Chopin Airport
Frederick Chopin Airport is located only 8 kilometres from the city centre. It is well connected by buses and trains. For the most demanding we recommend private transfer. Here are practical tips how to get easily from the Warsaw main airport to the city centre.
PUBLIC TRANSPORT
Train
There are red and green trains linking the airport with the city. It takes approximately 15 minutes to be in the centre. It is easy to find the platform but you need about 10-15 minutes to get there. In order to find the platform follow the signs from the arrival hal. See the map below:
Before you get on the train you have to buy a ticket. The best option to obtain tickets is Passenger Service Centre in the arrival hall. They will also inform you about ticket tariff and transport connections. Other way are vending machines located by the entrance to a railway station or on the bus stop. Vending machines accept coins, bank notes and most of the worlds’ credit cards.
The most popular ticket is single ticket, valid for 75 minutes within city limits. Transfers are possible. If you are staying in Warsaw longer you should buy one-day ticket, valid for 24 hours from validation. When you stay in Warsaw at weekend we recommend buying weekend ticket, which entitles to unlimited number of journeys from 7:00 PM on Friday till 8:00 AM on Monday.
Then you should choose the right train. There are 2 types of trains: Szybka Kolej Miejska (Fast Urban Railway) in red colour – lines S2 and S3 and Koleje Mazowieckie (Masovian Railways) in green colour – line KML.
Generally, there are separate tickets for Masovian Railways, but regular city tickets are valid on this line (only on the way from the airport). There are no validators inside these trains and you have to ask the staff to validate your ticket. We recommend using SKM trains (red one) – validators are located inside the train and all city tickets are valid.
Bus
Second option is a bus, which is quite slower, but covers more places in Warsaw like the Old Town. There are 5 lines:
- 175 to the Pilsudski Square passing the Old Town, the Royal Route, metro station Centrum, Central Railway Station and several hotels.
- 188 to the Praga Poludnie district (via Politechnika metro station)
- 148 to the Praga Poludnie district (via Natolin metro station)
- 331 to the Wilanowska metro station (peak-time line on workdays)
- N32 to the Central Railway Station (night line)
Bus 175 is the best way to reach the Old Town – an ideal place to start your city tour! Here you can check our tours around the city.
